As Christmas approaches, it’s so important to support, small businesses.  It’s convenient these days to pick up our Christmas shopping from the giants – the big stores, toy stores, amazon and the supermarkets during our grocery shop.  The reality is, we need to support our local small business owners who work tirelessly 24/7 to make their businesses work.

This year though, my quest is to encourage as many of you as possible to buy original and thoughtful gifts.  Please back a small business.  You are helping them to keep going and not give up on their dreams.  Many small businesses are run by people who are doing their best to feed their kids and to give them a little bit extra.  Buying from a small business means you will make a difference to an individual family.   A bad Christmas can mean deflated confidence or can even make or break a small business.

We know that buying the latest and greatest, shiny, flashy piece of tech that everybody seems to want these days will also feature on your list.  That doesn’t mean that the thoughtful, bespoke, personalized, hand-picked and in some cases hand-crafted items can’t too.  The hard to find gift, stocking fillers, thoughtful personalized items and vouchers that you don’t get from the big giants mentioned above or indeed the personal customer service that you do get from a small business owner.  Buying from a small business means something to them.  You’re helping them to be self-employed, pick up their kids from school and watch little Johnny being Joseph in the school nativity play.  Yes really.

Many small businesses rely heavily on social media and word of mouth.  If you have bought from a small business before, leave them a review or a swanky testimonial. It will make a difference.  Share their posts on your social channels.  Every little will help.

Tell your friends.  Every small business will be so grateful for a recommendation.

Here is a list of our favourite small brands in the Biz Girls community.  I absolutely love them and many of them will feature on my Christmas shopping list this year.

Thanks a million for supporting a small business this year.  Your support will make a difference.
